Mystery Monday is a blogging prompt by
Geneabloggers.com. Mystery Monday is where you can post about mystery ancestors or mystery records – anything in your genealogy and family history research which is currently unsolved. This is a great way to get your fellow genealogy bloggers to lend their eyes to what you’ve found so far and possibly help solve the mystery. Several genealogy bloggers have been using Mystery Monday as an ongoing series including Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings, Kathleen Moore of The Misadventures of a Genealogist and Betty Tartas of Betty’s Boneyard Genealogy Blog. I did extensive research on this line over the last couple of months but was not able to find most of the 11 children of this couple. I found dates on family trees on Ancestry.com but they were not sourced and I want sources. I'm hoping that maybe someone will see this and if they have more information with their sources, they will contact me at Mom25dogs@gmail.com
Elizabeth Barnes was born
9/8/1809 in
Rowan County, NC to
Richard Gilmer Barnes, III (DOB
About 1790 in
Rowan County, NC; DOD
About 1874 in
Davidson County, NC) and
Fanny Johnson (DOB
About 1787 in
Rowan County, NC; DOD
About 1854 in
Davidson County, NC).
Richard Gilmer Barnes, III married
Fanny Johnson on
11/21/1808 in
Rowan County, NC.
Elizabeth was their firstborn and the first of 8 children.
The county was formed in 1753 from the northern part of Anson County. Matthew Rowan, acting governor of North Carolina from 1753 to 1754, was it's namesake. Rowan County was a large pioneer territory in western NC with an indefinite western boundary. Rowan included the entire northwestern sector of North Carolina. Over time, its size was reduced as a number of counties were split off. This began in 1770, when the eastern part of it was combined with the western part of Orange County to become Guilford County, North Carolina. In 1771 the northeastern part of what remained of Rowan County became Surry County. In 1777 the western part of Rowan County became Burke County. In 1788 the western part of the now much smaller Rowan County became Iredell County.
In 1822 the eastern part of the county became Davidson County. Finally, in 1836 the part of Rowan County north of the South Yadkin River became Davie County.

John Nunnally enlisted on
12 Jul 1862 in
Smithville, Lawrence County, AR, C.S.A. AR 38th Infantry Regiment, Co. D, Private. After a divided Arkansas seceded from the Union in 1861, it became a strategic target for both North and South because of its location on the Mississippi River and its role as a gateway to the Southwest. Included among the state's more than 750 military engagements were a number of major conflicts.
The war's largest battle west of the Mississippi was fought at Pea Ridge in March 1862. Participating were some 26,000 soldiers. The Union victory dashed Confederate hopes of occupying Missouri.
In December, 1862, more than 11,000 Confederates battled Union forces at Prairie Grove in a failed attempt to prevent federal occupation of Fort Smith.
The control of Arkansas River commerce was at stake when 30,000 Union troops overwhelmed 5,000 Confederates at Arkansas Post in January 1863, while control of the Mississippi figured in the Battle of Helena on July 4, 1863.
Union forces occupied Little Rock on Sept. 10, 1863, despite numerous skirmishes. The state's Confederate government moved its capital to the town of Washington.
In the spring of 1864, 13,000 federal troops headed southwest from Little Rock in an attempt to complete the Union conquest of the state. That failed venture is now known as the Red River Campaign.

11)
Margaret J. Nunnally (DOB
About 1848 in
Eaton, Lawrence County, AR; DOD ? in ? ) married ? . There was a Margaret Nunnally daughter of Daniel Nunnally also in Lawrence County, AR. I noticed that there is not a Margaret Nunnally with William and Elizabeth in the 1860 U.S. Census (Lawrence County, AR) and she would have only been 11 yrs old so she should be living with her parents. There is just Margaret Nunnally the daughter of Daniel Nunnally. Jesse Alex Ketner married a Margaret J. Nunnally but she was evidently born in 1859 and died of childbirth in 1893. I think this Margaret J. Nunnally was the daughter of Daniel Nunnally and NOT the Margaret Nunnally daughter of William and Elizabeth Barnes Nunnally. I would assume then that Margaret died before the 1860 U.S. Census. If anyone can set me straight, contact me.

I don't have any sources for the 11th child of William Nunnally and Elizabeth Barnes, Margaret J. Barnes.
I worked on this line extensively on the Internet (I live in SC so I couldn't research in Arkansas) and wasn't able to find sources for a lot of of Elizabeth's children.
