Butler Norman Kelly, Sr. and Virginia Nelson

Butler Norman Kelly, Sr. was born 9/17/1888 in Union, Union County, SC to Thomas Normal Kelly, Jr. (DOB 7/2/1826 in Alston, Fairfield County, SC) and Mary "Polly" Elizabeth Comer (DOB 7/12/1846 in Alston, Fairfield County, SC; DOD 4/18/1925 in Pinckneyville, Union County, SC). Butler was the youngest of 12 children.

Well, rain continues. The Lord sends showers of blessings upon us very often. The ground scarcely gets dry enough to work until it begins to rain again. We hope for some beautiful days so the outdoors work won't be so far behind.
The farmers around here seem to be interested in the Corn Show at Columbia. A good many from this community went last week.
Among those who went were Messrs. D.G. Gallman, J.N. Gallman, T.E. Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. John Little, and others have gone this week.
Mrs. F.L. Ammons spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Gallman.
Mr. and Mrs. B.N. Kelly spent Monday with Mr. Kelly's sister, Mrs. John Gault, at Jonesville.

UNION -- Leo Melle Kelly Newton, 76, of 401 W. South St. died July 1, 1998, after an extended illness.
A native of Union, she was the widow of Irving Edward Newton and the daughter of the late Butler N. Kelly Sr. and Virginia Nelson Kelly. She was a member of the Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Corps of Army Nurses. She was a graduate of the Medical College of Nursing in Charleston and served as administrator of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home for 25 years.
Survivors include four children, Andrea Rhymer, Pam Phillips and James E. Newton, all of Union, and Charles A. Newton of the home; a brother, James Kelly of Swainsboro, Ga.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Larry Hyder.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Ellen Sagar Nursing Home Memorial Fund, 1817 Jonesville Highway, Union 29379.

Obituary of James Edgar Adams, Jr.

Williston - James (Jimmy) Edgar Adams Jr., 71, of Woodland Dr., died on March 11, 1998 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Mr. Adams was born in Union County, a son of the late James E. Adams Sr. and Estelle Quattlebaum Adams. He was an electrical and instruments mechanic at Savannah River Plant, E.I. Dupont, a co-owner of Williston Hardware and Building Supply and was formerly employed by Daniel Construction Company. He was an avid cattle farmer and was active in civic affairs. Mr. Adams was a World War II army veteran and a member of Williston First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a wife, Jane Bell Way Adams; three daughters, Kim Adams Dandridge and Gayle Way Fletcher, both of Williston, and Harriet Ann Cullinan of Columbia; two sons, Wayne Way of Aiken and J.E. Adams III of Williston; and eleven grandchildren. He was first married to the late Hattie Nelson Kelly Adams and was predeceased by a brother, Joe F. (Babe) Adams, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday at Williston First Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Hanf and the Rev. Floyd Dukes. Burial will be in the Williston Cemetery.
Visitation will be held tonight from 7-9 at Folk Funeral Home in Williston.
Memorials may be made to the Williston First Baptist Church Youth Fund, P.O. Box 366, Williston, 29853.
The Folk Funeral Home of Williston has charge of the arrangements
