IX) Richard Hilton Reid (DOB 8/4/1886 in Spartanburg County, SC; DOD 8/23/1886 in Spartanburg County, SC)

How does this family connect to my genealogy? William Arthur and Sarah Jane Sloan Reid's daughter, Ella Reid, married John Cohen. John Cohen was Stan's Great Grandfather, William "Will" Edward Cohen. So the Reid's aren't related except by marriage.

I met Sarah A.B.R. through my NSDAR Chapter and she invited me to a Bible study at Morningside Baptist Church. I came to really enjoy the Bible study and getting to know Sarah better. She's such a sweet lady and good Christian. She invited Stan and I to her home one morning for brunch and to meet some friends. Stan knew her friends from Beaumont and while we were chatting Sarah happened to point out a small antique desk that she has and said her Uncle Bud Cohen in Union made it. That snapped to my attention. Come to find out Stan's Great Grandfather, Will Cohen's brother was named John "Bud" Cohen. John was married to Ella Reid. They didn't have children. Anyway, Sarah is the daughter of Doris Kate Reid Burgess and Doris Kate was the daughter of Lester Boyd Reid. Ella Reid Cohen and Lester Boyd Reid were brother and sister. She said that Bud and Ella practically raised Doris Kate and were like her grandparents. Such a small world. The desk is a pretty little desk with lift top and short, thick but turned legs. He must have been good at wood work. According to Stanley C., John built a log house in the back yard and this was where Stanley C. was born. Then he built the house they lived in and maybe Will and Kate Cohen's house. ? Stan was about 10 yrs old when his Great Great Uncle John Cohen died so he doesn't remember him. His mother, Peggy, remembers going to his funeral.
