Amanuensis Monday - Even Alexander Boone and Martha Jane Austin

Stanly County, NC on the map of counties of North Carolina

Stanly County, NC

Even Alexander Boone (aka Evan Alexander Boone, Even Alexander Boon, Evan Alexander Boon) was born 9/24/1858 in Stanly County, NC to Peter William Boone (DOB 5/20/1834 in Alamance County, NC; DOD 7/27/1911 in Stanly County, NC) and Mary Jane Smith (DOB 5/3/1838 in Stanly County, NC; DOD 1/10/1915 in Stanly County, NC). He was the eldest of 14 children. His parents were married on 11/12/1857 so he was conceived in about a month after their wedding.

When he was born while James Buchanan was President of the United States. He was followed by Abraham Lincoln. The War of Northern Aggression started in April, 1861 when Even was about 3 years old. I was unable to find any record of Peter William Boone fighting in the War and it was family tradition that somehow he managed to hide out and didn't serve. Even grew up during a very bad time in our country. The War ended in April, 1865 and Even would have been about 7 yrs old. Then the horrible Reconstruction years lasted about 12 years. He also saw the Industrial Revolution take off with cotton mills sprouting up every where. He lived to see these Presidents: James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A Garfield, Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, Grover Cleveland (again), William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. He died while William Howard Taft was President of the U.S. Even was 41 years old when 1899 turned to 1900. He lived through the First World War and the roaring Twenties. He saw Black Monday, the stock market crash on October 28, 1929 when the Great Depression Began. He lived in a time of horse and wagons but saw the advent of the automobile. He saw the first airplanes in the sky. He was excited to listen to a radio and then see silent movies. Technology began developing and things changed quicker and quicker. Some for the better and some for the worse.

Cause of death: Bright's disease*
Burial: 5/15/1930 in Mineral Springs
*Bright's disease - is an obsolete classification of kidney diseases that would be described in modern medicine as acute or chronic nephritis. It was named after Dr. Richard Bright, who described the condition in the early 19th century. Nephritis is caused by inflammation of part of the kidneys, usually either the glomeruli or the spaces in between the renal tubules. The first is the part of the kidneys that filter blood, and the second are the areas in between the parts of the kidneys that collect the fluid after it's filtered by the glomeruli. A condition where the parts of the kidneys that are responsible for filtering become inflamed and results in blood and proteins accidentally leaking into the urine. The condition can occur after certain infections and serious kidney dysfunction can result in severe or chronic complications. Different conditions, including lupus, a urinary tract infection that travels up to the kidneys, bacterial infections, and allergies to certain medications can cause it. Infectious diseases like pneumonia, measles, mononucleosis, and hepatitis, can also cause Bright's disease, as can having too little potassium or too much calcium in the blood.
