*Pyelitis Acute inflammation of the pelvis of the kidney, caused by bacterial infection. a fairly common disease that usually can be diagnosed and cured without great difficulty. Prompt and effective treatment is necessary to prevent the spread of infection and the development of pyelonephritis, which in its chronic form is a severely disabling disease in which damage to the kidney cells may lead to high blood pressure and uremia. Pyelitis is usually caused by a microorganism such as Escherichia coli or (less often) streptococci or staphylococci, which may invade the kidneys by way of the blood. It may also arise from an infection of the bladder (cystitis). Probably the most common symptoms of pyelitis are frequency and urgency of urination and dysuria. Other possible symptoms include fever, chills, headache, and pain in one or both sides of the lower back. Pyelitis may also be present without any outward symptoms, but urinalysis will reveal many pus cells and occasionally erythrocytes.Treatment. Pyelitis and pyelonephritis can usually be treated successfully with sulfonamides.

"Dead Ringer"

"Dead ringer" - An exact duplicate. A ringer is a horse substituted for another that looks just like it in order to defraud the bookies. This word originated in the US horse-racing fraternity at the end of the 19th century. Manitoba Free Press from October 1882: "A horse that is taken through the country and trotted under a false name and pedigree is called a 'ringer.'" As a verb, "ring" has long been used to mean "exchange/substitute" in a variety of situations, most of them illegal. The meaning for "dead" that's relevant here is exact or precise. This is demonstrated in many phrases such as "dead shot", "dead centre", etc.

"Bimbo"

"bimbo" - describes a woman who acts in a sexually promiscuous manner. The term can also be used to describe a woman who is physically attractive but is perceived to have a low intelligence or poor education. This word derives itself from the Italian bimbo, derived from bambino, a masculine-gender term that means (male) baby (bimbo's feminine equivalent is bimba). Use of this term began in the United States as early as 1919, and was a slang word used to describe an unintelligent or brutish man. It was not until 1929 that the term Bimbo began to be associated with women. The 1929 silent film Desert Nights describes a wealthy female crook as a bimbo.

"Tin Pan Alley"

"Tin Pan Alley" - In an article in The World in 1903 it was said specifically to be the area of Twenty-eighth Street in New York between Broadway and Sixth Avenue and to be the home of most of the notable US music publishers. Later, Tin Pan Alley became a figurative term for the whole US music publishing business. employing a tin pan as a raucous and discordant noisemaker. As every household had at least one tin pan and a wooden spoon or such with which to bang it, the material with which to contribute to a cacophonous communal row was always at hand. Building on that was the use of tin pan to describe a piano of indifferent quality, especially one played by an amateur. Several newspaper reports record tin-pan alley in American cities for what seems to have been an area with a poor reputation, presumably one with noisy and illicit goings-on.
