The Santa Tradition

Our great niece and nephew go to see Santa Claus every year. This is the first time for Savannah. This is Brett's third year. The first year they are always uncertain about Santa. I believe Brett cried. But now Brett loves "Can Cause". I did this digital scrapbook page of this Christmas tradition.

The Little Oak Rocking Chair

My Mom said her parents bought her this little oak rocking chair when she was a baby. Eventually all three of us played with it. Then Elaine had it for her two children, Jenny and Luke. Now Mom's Great Grandchildren are playing with it. I have a photo of my in the rocking chair in 1959 and then I took this one of my Great Nephew, Brett, in the rocking chair this summer. I did this digital scrapbook page of this little rocking chair.

My Second Christmas in 1960

I did this digital scrapbook page of my 2nd Christmas. My Mom had given me my first dolls.

William Robert Miller and Nancy Matilda Sexton

William Robert Miller was the son of Anderson Miller and Cynthia Hickam. Ance Miller and Cynthia Hickham were the parents of my Great Grandmother, Noda Vesta Miller Lamb, so William Robert Miller would have been a great great uncle to me. I have been able to follow him and his wife, Matilda Sexton, to their deaths. But I haven't been able to follow their children. If anyone has any information about their children, I would really appreciate it if you contacted me at Mom25dogs@gmail.com.

William Robert Miller was born in February, 1863 in Madison County, NC to Anderson Miller (aka Ance Miller, DOB 11/1834 in Old Buncombe County, NC in an area that would later become Madison County, NC; DOD March, 1907) and Cynthia Hickam (DOB 11/1841 in Old Buncombe County, NC in an aread that would later become Madison County, NC; DOD 10/12/1929 in Hot Springs, Madison County, NC). William Robert Miller was the eldest of their children.

Went To The Mountains Today

My Mom, Dad, Stan and I went to Hendersonville today. It was a dreary, rainy day. It started off being 63 degrees but by lunch it was down to 53 degrees and the wind picked up. But we had our umbrellas and got to shop at all the thrift stores. We ate at one of our favorite restaurants, Never Blue. On the way home we took the longer way on the old Hwy 176. It was the main highway to the mountains before Interstate 26 was built. It's pretty winding but had nice scenery. Here is a photo I took of a waterfall we could see in the distance. In the summer, you can't see this waterfall from the road because of all the leaves but we got to see it today with the leaves all gone.

Pie Safes

In the days before refrigeration, pie safes were cabinets made to store pies and other baked goods to keep flies and bugs from getting to them. They had to have ventilation so the pies could cool but you didn't want your pies attracting flies. The original pie safes would have wood or tin fronts that had tiny holes pierced in them. Eventually screening became available and those front (and, sometimes, the side) panels were screened. They came in all sizes.

Today they are used throughout the house for storage and decor. I found these ideas on how to use and decorate with a pie safe.

Some Of Savannah's Firsts

Savannah is enjoying the holidays for the first time so I made these digital scrapbook pages of this sweet baby girl's firsts.

My sister, Elaine, Savannah's grandmother (Grommie), bought her a monkey outfit for Halloween. Hannah, Savannah's mother, had purchased her an elephant costume. So baby Savannah wore them both! So here is the scrapbook page I did for her first Halloween.

Here is the digital scrapbook page I made for Savannah's first Thanksgiving.

Luke and Hannah, Elaine and Ronnie, took Savannah to a Christmas tree farm in the Western NC mountains. The weather was perfect and they had a great time together. Here are the digital scrapbook pages I made of them picking out their Christmas tree and Savannah seeing Santa Clause for the first time.

Stan and I got to visit Luke, Hannah and Savannah in their new home. I took this photo of Savannah's first Christmas tree.

This is the new Christmas wreath that I made.

One of our Italian Greyhounds was enjoying the sun the other day. He found a comfy spot in my bedroom to snooze.
