Camouflage and Lace

Our grand niece, Savannah, has a feminine mother and a masculine father. I got so tickled at these photos of Savannah dressed in a denim dress with camouflage hat on that is edged in lace. Such a compromise! She's so cute and I tried to capture the denim/camouflage and dress/lace combo with this digital layout.

In 1830, Daniel and Hannah Bane were living in Pickens County, SC.

According to the censuses, this is the Daniel and Hannah Banes family:
1) A. Bane (DOB: About 1818 in SC) married Charlotte Unknown (DOB: About 1810 in SC) and they had a daughter named Louisa J. Bane (DOB: About 1848 in SC). I haven't found anything else about A. Bain or his family at this time.

2) Joseph Bane (DOB: About 1822 in SC). I don't know any more about Joseph Bain at this time.

3) Malinda Bane (DOB: About 1825 in SC). I don't know any more about Malinda Bain at this time. She may never have married because she was 45 yrs old in the last census she appears and living with her father and sister, Mary.

4) Mary Bane (DOB: About 1828 in SC). She was called Polly Bane. I don't know any more about Mary Bain (Polly Bain) at this time. After her father died, she is found in the 1880 census at 50 yrs old in Spartanburg as a cook. After that, nothing.

5) Lydia A. Bane (DOB: 1838-1842 in SC). She may or may not be a daughter of Daniel and Hannah Bain. In the 1850 Census, there is a "Lucy A. Bane" living in their household along with Joseph, Mary and Malinda. Lucy A. Bane was born about 1837. In the 1860 census Daniel Bain has Lydia Bain and her first 2 children (Elisha and Martha J. Bain) living with him and her DOB was 1838. Did Joseph marry Lydia and then die before the 1860 census? In the 1850 census, Lucy (and Lydia) was only 13 yrs old but she is much younger than the other siblings. Was she a late baby of Daniel and Hannah's? Or was Lucy A. Bain really Lydia A. Bain? Was Joseph Bane Lydia's brother or husband? It's possible that Joseph married a Lydia A. Unknown and they had 2 children between 1850-1860. But I think that Lydia and Lucy are the same and that Lydia is a daughter of Daniel and Hannah Bane. Their dates of birth are the same. This would mean that all 3 of her children were illegitimate. Elisha and Martha J. Bain were the first two and her 3rd child, Elizabeth Bain, was born in 1869 (well after Joseph Bain was out of the picture). Elizabeth is called by her mother's last name so Lydia wasn't married between censuses only to lose a husband before the 1870 census. I'm pretty certain that Elizabeth Bain was illegitimate. Lydia's living alone with all three children doing "farm labor" work even though her father is still alive and 2 of his daughters are living with him. Is it possible that she was his black sheep daughter and with the advent of a 3rd illegitimate daughter, he put her out? Or was she married to Joseph Bain and had 2 of his children, but when she wound up pregnant with a 3rd child, obviously not Joseph's, did Daniel kick her out? Of course, she may have made the move away from Daniel on her own volition because who knows what the true story of the family dynamics were. Worst case scenario would be incest and her 3 children were Daniel's children and she finally got away. Best case scenario is that Joseph Bain was her husband and the father of the first 2 children and she and the children lived with Daniel until Elizabeth Bane was born.

If anyone knows anything about this family, please contact me! I would really like to be able to find out more about them. Who was Daniel Bane and where did he come from? Who were his parents? Who was Hannah and who were her parents? What happened to all their children? When and where did they die? Where are they all buried? So many missing pieces here and that drives me crazy!
