Basements

For those of you who are lucky enough to have a basement, I did a Google search to find ideas on how to decorate a basement.
There are a couple of things to decide on before you finish or remodel a basement.

The first thing is to decide what you want your basement to do for you. Do you want it to be:
a media room
a den
an office
a children's playroom
a gym
a game room
a bar
a workroom (work room)
a craftroom (craft room)
a laundry area
a library
a storage room
a work shop
a guest bedroom
an extra bedroom
a child's bedroom
a wine cellar
a spa
a sauna
a 2nd kitchen
a storage room
an apartment
a music room
etc.

If your basement is large enough it can do two or more things. Maybe you want it to be your office, children's playroom and a media room. Maybe you want it to be a laundry room, den and library.

Once you decide what you want your basement to be, then you need to decide how you want to decorate it. Do you want it in dark colors and cozy? Or do you like light colors? Do you want it to be bright and fun? Do you want it to be sophisticated and modern?

Next you decide how to divide the areas. You might need an architect for a full basement finish. Where do you want electrical outlets, light fixtures, plumbing, heating and air conditioning. Lighting is important in a basement. I can't stand to feel like I'm in a basement and I think lighting has a lot to do with it.

Make sure your basement isn't damp and doesn't have problems with leaks or mildew. If you have those kind of problems, those have to be fixed first.

I did a Google search and found these great ideas! I tried to include something for everyone from simple to extravagant, from small to large.

This is one of my favorites.

I love this one too. It's so bright. It really takes away the basement feel.

Notice the light dimming shades that can be pulled down.

Really nice!

Remember, you can get away with almost any style as long as you keep it clean. Even a professionally decorated room will look bad if it's not kept clean and dust free!
