The Cold Moon by Jeffery Deaver

The Cold Moon by Jeffery Deaver

This was another great book by Deaver. I found Jeffery Deaver about a year ago after watching "The Bone Collector" movie with Denzel Washington. I've read several now.

This is a Lincoln Rhyme mystery. Lincoln Rhyme is a quadriplegic detective. He was injured in the line of duty and is bound to a wheelchair or hospital bed at his brownstone apartment. He has an aide, Thom, and a cadre of police who help him. But he is the brains. Amelia Sachs is in love with Rhymes but she is a driven, ambitious detective and does Rhyme's forensic sites. both Sachs and Rhyme are rather rude, brusque and it makes you wonder why they have any friends at all. But they get the job done. They are joined by rookie Ron Pulaski, veteran Len Sollita and forensics Mel Cooper. In this book they use a kinesics expert, Dance. I learned a lot about kinesics from this book.

It starts with two murder scenes. A puddle of blood is found on a pier and the forensics appear to show that someone had to hang off the pier and then their wrists were slit until they fell into the river. The other, a man, was bound to a bench and a heavy bar was suspended over his neck. When he could no longer hold it up, the bar crushed his throat. At both murder scenes were clocks with lunar moon faces. So the murderer was called the Watchmaker.

As they follow the clues, things get more and more twisted. You can't figure it out, I swear!

I recommend this book.
