Obedience to God includes doing things in proper order

King David brings the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem.

1Ch 13:3 And let us bring again the ark of our God to us. For we did not inquire at it in the days of Saul.
1Ch 13:4 And all the congregation said to do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
1Ch 13:5 And David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt even to the entering of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjath-jearim. ...

1Ch 13:7 And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab. And Uzza and Ahio led the cart.
1Ch 13:8 And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with lyres, and with harps, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
1Ch 13:9 And when they came to the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark for the oxen stumbled.
1Ch 13:10 And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Uzza, and He struck him because he put his hand to the ark. And he died there before Jehovah.
1Ch 13:11 And David was displeased because Jehovah had made a break on Uzza...

1Ch 15:2 Then David said, No one ought to carry the ark of God except the Levites, for God has chosen them to carry the ark of God, and to minister to Him forever.
1Ch 15:3 And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of Jehovah to its place which he had prepared for it. ...

1Ch 15:11 And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab.
1Ch 15:12 And he said to them, You are the heads of the fathers of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, you and your brothers, so that you may bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel to the place which I have prepared for it.
1Ch 15:13 For because you did not do it at the first, Jehovah our God made a break on us, since we did not seek Him in due order.
1Ch 15:14 And the priests and the Levites made themselves pure in order to bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
1Ch 15:15 And the sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders, with the staves on it, as Moses commanded according to the Word of Jehovah.

Why did Uzza die when he reached out to steady the Ark of the Covenant of God?

According to the Law of Moses, the Ark was to be covered with badger skins and then topped with blue clothe. The Ark had rings on it's corners for long poles to slide through. The Kohathites were to pick up the Ark using only the staves or poles and not to touch the Ark itself. Then they were to carry the Ark on their shoulders. David was in too much of a hurry and neglected to follow God's prescribed way. He jumped ahead of himself. He thought, that since the Philistines had moved the Ark using a wagon that they could do that too. But the Philistines didn't know any better and David, the Priests and Levites did know better. They were held responsible for their knowledge. They were trying to be obedient and yet didn't do things in the proper order.

Num 4:15 And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, when the camp is to set forward, then after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry it. But they shall not touch any holy thing lest they die. These are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.

Num 7:9 But to the sons of Kohath he did not give any, because the service of the sanctuary belonging to them was that which they should carry upon their shoulders.

Too many times we jump ahead of ourselves and get out of God's timing. We get our eyes on a goal, even a good goal, and we forget to do things in proper order. Are we sleeping with our fiances before the wedding? Then we are rushing ahead and doing things out of God's proper order. Are we getting into debt? Maybe we should save our money first and then buy something rather than jump ahead and do things out of order and get ourselves in too deep. When you want something so bad, even something really good, be sure to keep a check on yourself so that you don't do things out of God's order. He may want you to wait and let Him bring about what needs to brought about. But if we push ahead, we are trying to do things on our own and will end up with a catastrophe. Remember Abraham and Sarah? God promised them a son and yet years went by and there was no son. Finally they tried to take matters into their own hands and Sarah came up with the idea of having her maid become a wife to Abraham and let her maid conceive the son. This was not God's plan but they wanted it so badly that they rushed ahead and tried to make it happen. It happened but the son the maid bore was not the promised son. Ishmael became the father of the Arab nations that hate the Jews to this day. Later, Sarah became pregnant with the promised son, Isaac. Isaac is the father of the Jews, the Israelites, today. Trying to do things in the arm of the flesh leads to a catastrophe. Waiting on God to do things with the arm of the spirit and in His proper order leads to a perfect result.

Psa 25:3-5 Yea, let none who wait on You be ashamed; let them be ashamed who sin without cause. Make me know Your ways, O Jehovah; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth, and teach me; for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day long.
